Idaho's nickname of the "Gem State" is symbolised the six-pointed star which represents the star garnet - a gemstone unique to the state. The gem hovers above the white zigzag line of the mountains to represent a possible meaning of the state's name, "Gem of the Mountains". Another possible meaning of the name Idaho is also represented by the colour blue, the "Land of Many Waters", as well as the sky and Idaho's waterways. Together the red, white and blue also recall the flag of the United States. The green lower stripe symbolises Idaho's agricultural resources and its vast wilderness areas.
