Alternate US Flags: Arizona

The flag combines the red and gold colours of the Spanish flag, recalling Arizona's colonial history, with the state colours of blue and gold and a copper colour which recalls Arizona's nickname of the "Copper State". The single large star represents the state and is surrounded by 12 smaller stars to represent the year of statehood (1912) and together the 13 original colonies. The stars are located on the left of the flag to represent Arizona's position in the western United States. The state's most notable natural attraction, the Grand Canyon, is symbolised by the red, copper and blue stripes running from the corner to the bottom of the flag.
