FLA Poster

Description

A poster showing the teams making up the FLA - the (American) Football League of Australia - by request.

Here's the original request which gives a bit of background:

Australia goes down the "no longer under the Crown but still part of the British Commonwealth" route, with American culture becoming a little more entrenched. Sometime in the '50s, an Australian businessman who becomes a football aficionado while visiting the U.S., decides to bring the sport home and convinces some folks to join his new team, the Sydney Roughriders, in 1955. American Football soon becomes quite popular, and by 1960, the Perth Westsiders and Melbourne Wallabies have also come about. By the end of the '70s, pretty much every significant city in Australia has an American Football team, the Hobart Scotsmen being the newest major team.

I wonder if Darwin and FNQld could support NFL teams, especially in the 60s.

That being said, its a great map. I wonder how Aussie Rules and Rugby League fare with another sport to content with. Aussie Rules would probably be firmly entrenched in SA and Vic, but I wonder if it would spread through to the other states in the fashion it has today. And with less British influence, I wonder if League would survive outside NSW
